Listen, Wait, and Be Content
As we head into another week of the year that I truly don't care for I am reminded of so many things.
Valentines day is coming and it is one of three times a year I don't care for. Its one of those holidays I have a love hate relationship with. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentines day. I love Thanksgiving and Christmas because of the true meaning behind them both but in this day and age being a single young lady means I get match made for all the time during those three holiday weeks each year.
So let me tell you what I am waiting on.
First I am waiting on God. He knows the man He has chosen for me to marry and when I am to marry or if I am to marry at all.
Second I am waiting on a man seeking after God's heart like I am.
Third I am looking for a man who compliments me the way I compliment him. Not paying me compliments of how that color of shirt brings out my eyes or that I look pretty in that dress etc. Someone who makes me complete. Who fills the voids I probably don't even know are there. Some one who cares for their family and friends so deeply it hurts sometimes. Some one who finds me interesting for me and not just part of the time all of the time. Some one who will pray with me, read the Bible with me , Study the Bible with me, encourage me in my walk with God, someone who will encourage me to encourage him in those same things. Someone who will understand if I just need to sit in silence sometimes and sit in silence with me.
So here I sit still waiting.
But what does one do while they are waiting?
God and I have long conversations. God continues to teach me so much about Him and myself and He shows me where I need to let Him in and work and mold me. He helps me to sit and listen, not listen to give an answer but really listen.
God has helped me be content.
God is the love of my life. He fills the voids. He makes me whole. He sees me through.
God just hasn't decided to bless me with that special man. And THAT IS OK.
In my very short time on this earth I am slowly learning that God's timing is perfect and is always best for me.
So here is a thought for the single ladies and guys who might read this: Waiting for God's perfect timing is always best. Waiting for the man God has for you is always best. Let God mold you into the man or woman He wants you to be. Don't let anyone talk you into straying from your God made values about relationships.
For the ones who might read this that are married: Thank you for striving to be the Godly couple He wants you to be. For showing the world what marriage is supposed to be with God at the center. That a man and a woman compliment each other when they become a couple. That even through the bad times there is a never a reason to quit. Thank you for being your unique selves even as a couple. For sticking together through thick and thin.
To us singles still waiting: Listen, wait, and be content.
"11Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." Philippians 4:11-13 NLT
"19Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. 20Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. 21So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.
22But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves." James 1:19-22 NLT
