"and as your days, so shall your strength be"
I think we can all say the last year and a half has been a different kind of struggle.
On so many different levels.
As I was driving home from work today this song came back from years of playing it with my mom and brother. It struck me how many times as a young kid I didn't like this music or that music because it was "old fashioned", but now the stuff I used to call old fashioned has become my theme and or reminder of Who my Strength comes from. Todays Christian worship music is good and can brighten a day and some of it is even amazing and has the core of what our hearts need to hear, but it isn't quite the same as the "old fashioned" music we didn't like as kids.
There are so many good friends and family members in my prayers for this or that. Yet somehow despite whatever the struggles any of us are facing right now when we face them with Jesus as our soul focus the trials and tribulations, grief and sorrow, pain and hurt, seem a little lessoned or slightly easier to bear.
If you are reading this post my deepest prayer is that you will take the words of this song and let them sink in. May they be a reminder of Where your STRENGTH comes from. No matter what the struggle(trial/tribulation) of the day is, no matter what the sorrow of the day is, not matter what the grief of the day is, no matter what the pain of the day is, no matter what the hurt of the day is, that Day by Day and with each passing moment you and I can find the strength we need in Jesus!
"and as your days, so shall your strength be" Deuteronomy 33:25b
"1 Day by day and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment,
I've no cause for worry or for fear.
He whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best–
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.
2 Ev'ry day the Lord Himself is near me,
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He gladly bears and cheers me,
He whose name is Counselor and Pow'r.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid:
"As your days, your strength shall be in measure"–
This the pledge to me He made.
3 Help me then in ev'ry tribulation
So to trust Your promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith's sweet consolation
Offered me within Your holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when, toil and trouble meeting,
E'er to take, as from a father's hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till I reach the promised land."
The author of this song and her story is as follows:
Carolina Sandell wrote this hymn several years after witnessing the sudden drowning of her father, a tragic event that caused her great distress. Having been through that experience, she still could write about God, “He whose heart is kind beyond all measure gives unto each day what he deems best.” In the second stanza, she refers to Deuteronomy 33:25b: “as your days, so shall your strength be” (ESV). As this hymn is sung, remember that, though no human can accurately foretell the future, God knows what will happen and is also in complete control of all coming events.
Amen
